Studying abroad is an opportunity of a lifetime. But for secondary international students, it can be difficult and daunting. They can feel homesick and lonely. As a result, they may not be able to make the most out of it. One way to help them cope is through a homestay program. This would allow them to fully maximize the international experience. Every student should be able to improve their linguistic abilities and have better cultural immersion.
At Asian American Coalition for Education, we ensure that our international students are matched with a family that can help them take full advantage of their international education experience through our program. Our Chinese School in Bayside, New York offers full board accommodation to ensure that they have a safe, comfortable, and culturally enriching experience.
Host parents in the program provide support and a nurturing environment to students and help them adjust and integrate into the community.
Although it’s a basic room-rental arrangement with the host family, students can join them for meals and in their daily routine. Some of the basic provisions our host family offers include:
- Own bedroom
- Use of living areas within the home
- Study facilities including a desk, light, and bookshelf
- House key for students with after school activities and be home late
Aside from these, host families are also there to provide them guidance and manage their independence all throughout the program for the entire school year or during our summer camp in Bayside, New York.
